Frequently asked questions / A little reassurance

Your Jiu Jitsu questions.
Clear answers.

Your first class starts with a few questions. Here are clear answers to help you feel ready.

Your first class

Do I need experience to start?

No. Our fundamentals program welcomes complete beginners and introduces Jiu Jitsu step by step. Let us know you are new so we can help you choose a starting class.

Do I need to be in shape first?

You can start at your current fitness level. Tell your coach about your experience and goals, and build your training at a pace that works for you.

What should I wear and bring?

Wear athletic clothes such as shorts or leggings and a T-shirt, and bring water. If you have a gi, bring it. You do not need to own one to start. We sell gis and training gear when you are ready.

How does the free trial work?

Send a trial request with the program you are interested in. We will help you choose a class and arrange your visit. A request does not reserve or confirm a class time. Complete the student waiver before stepping on the mats.

How do you support beginners?

Our coaches emphasize clear fundamentals, controlled partner training, and a respectful environment. Ask questions, tell your coach when you need help, and work with your training partners at an appropriate pace.

Kids & families

Which class is right for my child?

Littles is for ages 4–6. Regular kids Jiu Jitsu starts at age 7, and the dedicated teens class starts at age 12. Kids kickboxing is also available. Contact us for help choosing the best fit.

Can teens attend other classes?

Yes. Teens can attend the dedicated teens class and regular classes for additional training. Talk with a coach about the right partners and class options.

Does the family membership require a commitment?

No. The family membership is $400 per month for the household, with no enrollment fee, required commitment, or extra family-plan conditions.

Training & memberships

Do you offer Muay Thai?

Yes. Adult Muay Thai meets Tuesday and Friday at 6 PM. Kids kickboxing meets Tuesday at 5 PM. Classes focus on technique, padwork, and movement.

What does membership cost?

Adults and kids ages 7+ are $150 per month. Littles ages 4–6 are $99 per month. A household family membership is $400 per month with no enrollment fee, required commitment, or extra family-plan conditions. Adults, kids, and Littles enrollment fees are listed on the Pricing page.

Are there military or first responder discounts?

Yes. Contact us for the current military and first responder discount details.

Can I visit from another academy?

Travelers are welcome, and there is no drop-in fee. Check the schedule and contact us before visiting. Sunday open mat takes place at White Lotus Jiu Jitsu, not at Aura.

What should I know about etiquette and equipment?

Complete the waiver before training, listen to your coach, and prioritize your partner’s safety. Ask us about the equipment for your chosen class and the full academy rules before your first visit.
